How to Give the Gift of Art.

It’s hard to believe that the holidays are right around the corner…again. It’s true what they say…”time is fleeting”, even through a year as difficult as this one was, it seems that in a blink of an eye a year has passed.

I always struggle at this time of year trying to figure out what to get for those very special people in my life. If you’re looking for that special gift, a gift of timeless quality, a gift that will be cherished for a lifetime then you should be considering the gift of art.

What you should consider when purchasing art…

1. The Recipient of the Gift - what is it that they enjoy or are passionate about. Is it a place they’ve traveled too or would like to travel to, do they love hiking or nature walks, do they like pop culture or vintage items or are they purveyors of Fine Art. The answer to these questions will you with the subject matter of the artwork.

2. Set a Budget - While we’d all love to purchase a Lichtenstein or Banksy that’s usually out of reach for most of us. Fine Art photography provides so many options to the collector. There are limited edition and open edition prints, different mounting methods from framed prints to acrylic prints and depending on what you chose this is an affordable option. 3. Where will the Artwork Go - Yes a 40 x 60 piece will make a statement but if the person you’re giving the gift too lives in a small apartment it might be challenging to hang. While size is important, even a smaller piece can make a big impact in the right space. Think beyond the home, maybe your special someone needs a piece of art for their office.

4. Consider Groupings - a group of smaller images of a similar theme can make a big impact. Groupings of 3 or 4 images can be similar in theme, framed the same way, all Black & White images, pick what you think will work best for the space and the person.

5. Personalize it! - you’ve given a lot of thought to this gift so make sure you let the recipient know what makes it special. Write a note and give a bit of background on the artist / photographer, why you chose the piece and why it made you think of the them.
