Insights & Musings: TURNING VISION INTO ART: THE HEART BEHIND MY FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY
As a fine art photographer, I’ve always been drawn to the idea of transformation — taking the everyday and reimagining it into something beautiful, unexpected, and emotionally resonant. My work begins long before the camera is even turned on. It starts with a spark of vision, a concept that often takes shape through folding, tearing, and reshaping something as ordinary as a magazine.
Yes, magazines.
There’s something poetic about taking printed pages — mass-produced, fleeting, disposable — and giving them new life. I comb through fashion editorials, news stories, and glossy advertisements, looking not for perfection, but for emotion, texture, and hidden potential. I fold the pages carefully, sometimes randomly, other times with obsessive intent, manipulating color and form until a new story begins to emerge. Each crease is like a brushstroke.
At the core of every piece, I incorporate a heart. It may be literal or abstract, but it's always there — a quiet reminder of the humanity in the work. To me, the heart represents more than just love. It symbolizes vulnerability, connection, and purpose. No matter how experimental or sculptural the final image becomes, the heart keeps it grounded in meaning.
Once the sculptural form is ready, I photograph it with intention — using light, shadow, and perspective to elevate the folded structure into a finished image. It’s no longer just paper or print. It’s art. A hybrid of tactile design and photographic storytelling.
My hope is that when you see one of my photographs, you’re not just admiring the folds or the colors. You’re feeling the vision behind it — the transformation of something overlooked into something soulful.
Art, for me, is not just what we see. It's what we feel. And every image I create starts with that vision — of turning something discarded into something with heart.
